Paula Alves: We set out to make travel dreams come true

TravelTailors is the first Portuguese agency to specialise in tailor-made travel.

It was created to meet the needs of travellers and non-tourists who want to discover the world at their own pace, with no mandatory groups or dates.

How did you start out?

‍

We felt that Portugal was missing a travel agency whose core business was truly tailor-made travel. We wanted a travel consultant that would understand our needs and provide us with the answers — whether we were interested in a beach, cultural, urban or remote destination.

‍

We also wanted an option that did not force us to join a group of 25 or more people. We realised that we had to do it ourselves! In 2010 we set out to make travel dreams come true.

What excites you about travel?

‍

Discovering new places — locations, hotels, experiences. Meeting interesting people, be it partners or clients. Becoming friends with clients and partners. It really is a wonderful thing when you discover these new relationships.

What themes are you seeing?

‍

The need for exclusive experiences and unique hotels. The desire for more remote locations with less tourism. Even if it’s a popular destination, going to more secluded areas.

What makes TravelTailors stand out?

Our booklet, made for every trip, is something our clients really value. They keep it as a souvenir and share it with family and friends. Their feedback shows that it is something they hold dear and look forward to on their next trip.

Have your clients’ needs changed?

‍

Our clients are very consistent – they want professional services and excellent hotels and experiences. Their needs really have not changed, it’s more the destinations.

‍

Our clients do not travel to the same places. They always want something new, which keeps us on our toes!
